Worship

At Hillside UMC, worship is our time of coming together, growing closer to God, and celebrating our community.
Normally, we worship on Sunday mornings at 9:00am, followed by a time of fellowship.  But, in this very challenging season, we worship God individually with a guidance of online bulletin. I hope and pray that each of you have your own Active worship to God wherever you are.

EMERGE/EMERGENCE
TRINITY SUNDAY

Prelude:  For the Beauty of the Earth and Hymn of Promise.        Thayer French
As we begin the season of Pentecost, and celebrate the very beginnings of Christianity, may we always remember God’s love for us.  Especially now in this time of uncertainty, may we put our fears to rest, and put our hope in Jesus’ message of love for us all. On this Trinity Sunday we celebrate one God in three persons.
Opening Hymn                            UMH#64 Holy, Holy, Holy
As we deal with the uncertainty of Covid-19 and the sadness and anger of racial injustice, let us pray this Prayer in the time of Chaos.

Prayer in Times of Chaos:    Make my heart and my feet be still, O Rock and Redeemer. The world around me continues in chaos--I cannot claim control over it.  Instead, remind me of the breath of life that flows in me.  In and out, in and out, in and out, continuously.  O Rock and Redeemer, you are here.  Within me.  Around me.  Always.  Thank you.  Amen

(Rev. Katie Black from “We Pray with Her.”)

Scripture Lesson:  For our theme of Emergence we will read parts of the creation story each week. Our Reader this week is Lynn Johnson

Genesis 1:1-8 1In the beginning God when created the heavens and the earth. 2Now the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. 3Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning-the first day. 6And God said, "Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters and let it  separate the waters from the waters." 7So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome.  And it was so. 8God called the dome "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning-the second day.
Hymn / UMH #707 Hymn of Promise
Greeting:  No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is perfected in us.

Prayer:  Everlasting God:  You have revealed yourself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and ever live and reign in the perfect unity of love.   Grant that we may always hold firmly and joyfully to this faith, and, living in praise of your divine majesty, may finally be one in you; who are three persons in one God for ever and ever.  Amen         BOW 410

Communion
Scripture / Matthew 28:16-20
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Message / Pastor Gil
Benediction / Pastor Gil

May we go forth, not in the strength of our own perceived power, but in the strength of the One who created us, redeemed us, and sustains us, One in Three, almighty and everlasting. Amen.

Prayer Upon Leaving:
Holy God, help us to treat everyone as Jesus would treat them so they will know through our words and actions that you love them.
