11 The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. 14 We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. 15 But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love. Ephesians 4:11-16 NRSV
In this reading from Paul’s letter, he speaks of how important it is for the health of a church that those members use their God given talents as was given to them by the LORD. There are many different types of talents – teaching, leadership, preaching, etc. It is best for a church when these parts of that body are working well and together ( like the parts of our bodies – working in unison). It is far better for a church to be healthy, rather than big !!
Let us pray – Holy and Loving God – as you have so wonderfully created humans to work as a body in unison, we pray that You guide us , Your church, to be strong and healthy, to work together , all of our abilities and talents blending together, all for the common good – giving You praise and glory, teaching and preaching Your Word, and telling our needy world of the Good News – Christ died , Christ rose, He lives again in glory with You , victorious over death !!
We pray all in His great name. Amen
Yours in Christ , Rollie
