“ So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith that you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”       Colossians 2:6-7

In today’s reading, Paul tells his listeners that they must stick with the teachings they have received from God through Christ, they need to continue to learn and grow in their faith in Him. Giving that up , giving into our own desires and fancies, is wrong. By living this way, you would be “living in the world”, as it were. This behavior ignores Christ. The implication once again is to not go along with the ceremonial laws and practices that exist in the world, but to stay faithful in Christ Jesus and the teachings He brings to us..

Let’s pray together please :   Our Loving God, who provides for His children in so many wonderful and beautiful ways, thank you. You continually bring us great gifts, great love and great blessings. Help us Lord, please, to stay steadfast with Jesus, to keep our focus squarely on Him, and adhere to His teachings to us – loving You, loving each other, caring for the less fortunate.   We ask all these things through Your Son’s Name.      Amen.

Yours in Christ,     Rollie

Colossians 2: 6-19

6 So than, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him

Receiving Christ is believing in him. My faith keeps me connected to Christ and helps me live my life as Jesus teaches. Through Jesus we learn more about God. Through Jesus we find God. We should walk with him daily and keep up our communion with him. The more closely we walk with Christ the deeper our faith becomes.

Dearest Jesus, you offered me life eternal through your death. You gave your all so that I could live. Help me to strengthen my faith to do a better job honoring you. Amen.

Colossians 2:19
They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

This metaphor of the body with ligaments and sinews is a great help to understand the organic structure of the church. This verse teaches when the body grows who causes the church to grow. First, the time the church grows is when all the ligaments and sinews are connected and held together with the head, Jesus Christ. As any branch can't bear any fruit when is severed from the vine, the whole body of church grows when all the parts of the body are connected and supported one another (Ephesians 4:15-16). Second, the church growth must be initiated by God. He is the subject who can cause the growth. We as many parts of the church do each role with individual's spiritual gift at best. But, the Initiator of the growth is God. So, we are to do our own unique part as much as we can with anticipating the God's time (1 Corinthians 3:6-9).

Father thank you for calling us as Your workers. Pour out Your grace and mercy upon our church families so that we can be more united in One Spirit by connecting, holding, and supporting one another. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
