6 “During that journey, about noon, as I approached Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven encircled me. 7 I fell to the ground and heard a voice asking me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you harassing me?’ 8 I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ ‘I am Jesus the Nazarene, whom you are harassing,’ he replied. 9 My traveling companions saw the light, but they didn’t hear the voice of the one who spoke to me. 10 I asked, ‘What should I do, Lord?’ ‘Get up,’ the Lord replied, ‘and go into Damascus. There you will be told everything you have been appointed to do.’ 11 I couldn’t see because of the brightness of that light, so my companions led me by the hand into Damascus. Acts 22:6-11
Paul was on his way to Damascus in Syria to arrest followers of Jesus and have them sent back to Jerusalem for questioning. ( At the time , his name was Saul). It was on that road that he was stopped by “ a bright light from Heaven” – it was The Lord, asking Saul why he was persecuting believers. Saul asked Jesus what he should do, and was told to go to Damascus, and all would be revealed to him there. This was his conversion to Christianity ( and would now be known as Paul). In Damascus, Ananias helped restore his sight. After this, his arrest occurred, he was very close to being flogged, then was brought before the Sanhedrin to be questioned there. Paul’s story of conversion is one of the most well known and most powerful in all the Bible.
Let us pray : Heavenly Lord, this story of “change of mind and heart”, of Paul’s conversion, is indeed powerful. It is a story of acceptance of You as sovereign , as All Powerful and Living indeed. We pray that there are many more in our world today who find You, who accept You as Lord of their lives, and are willing to commit to a life of serving You as the one and only true God of their lives !!! In all things, may Your will be continually done !! In Jesus’ Name we pray , Amen….
Yours in Christ , Rollie
