13 The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. 14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?”              Exodus 18:13-14

Today’s Old Testament reading tells us how Moses’ father-in-law Jethro tried to help Moses. Jethro told him that he cannot be doing all of this for his people while they stand around. They should be asked to assist Moses, so that the burden of doing this work does not become too much for Moses to bear. Moses agreed, appointing men of God, men of good character to help him. And things went well, as Jethro told him they would.
A very good example of a group of people ( think church) coming together to help one another in the day-to-day running of things.

Let’s pray together :   Eternal God, thank you for bringing this lesson to our eyes, and helping us to understand the meaning therein. Please Lord, we all want to continue to be working together, partners in our church’s efforts to tell the world of Your Great love , and the saving sacrifice of Your Son Jesus,  in whose name we pray.     Amen.

Yours in Christ  ,  Rollie

Exodus 18: 13-27

18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you, you cannot handle it alone

Asking for help has not been easy for me. I am a control freak. This I know for certain. However, as I have gotten older and cannot do everything I use to do on my own, I have learned to ask for help. I wish I had done this a long time ago. I have finally realize how important it is to ask God for help. Especially in the areas that he alone controls. I look to the Bible, my Church Family, my daily devotional book, faith and prayer to get me through the good and the bad times.

Found this prayer from the Brewster Baptist Church.

God grant that we all might have the wisdom, care, and generous spirit of Jethro and the willingness to listen, learn, lead and serve of Moses. Amen.
