34 “Your servant has kept his father’s sheep,” David replied to Saul, “and if ever a lion or a bear came and carried off one of the flock, 35 I would go after it, strike it, and rescue the animal from its mouth. If it turned on me, I would grab it at its jaw, strike it, and kill it. 36 Your servant has fought both lions and bears. This uncircumcised Philistine will be just like one of them because he has insulted the army of the living God.37 “The Lord,” David added, “who rescued me from the power of both lions and bears, will rescue me from the power of this Philistine.”  “Go!” Saul replied to David. “And may the Lord be with you!”        1 Samuel 17:34-37

David, as a young boy, had tremendous faith in The LORD. He reminds Saul of how dedicated he has been to tending the flock of sheep ( there is something of a parallel here – David and his sheep tending , as Jesus was our Good Shepherd, laying down His life for us, His “flock”). As a soldier puts on armor to fight battles, our armor should be like David’s was – faith, belief, dedication to God, righteousness !!

Let us pray please :  Loving God , help us to be clothed in armor to do battle for You in this ever changing and challenging world – gird us up with a faith and belief as strong as David’s was. Strengthen our hearts with Your guiding Spirit, that we can persevere and stay true to the task of telling the world of You , showing the world that love and compassion and justice for all Your people are what’s needed now and in the days to come. In our Savior’s Name we pray,    Amen

Yours in Christ  ,  Rollie

1 Samuel 17: 28-37

37 “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”

Oh, to have such faith. I search for faith like this. I say I believe, but at times I doubt. David had such great faith and knew he would do well with God by his side. I pray for this kind of faith. I know God will help me in my journey.

Dearest Lord, I want to have faith like David. Help me grow in my faith and not doubt so much. I don’t know why I doubt, but I sometimes do. Be there for me and teach me how to change and grow. Amen.

20200907 Mon, Daily Devotion - 1 Samuel 17:28

[1 Samuel 17:28, NLT] But when David's oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. "What are you doing around here anyway?" he demanded. "What about those few sheep you're supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!"

David’s walk by faith toward the enemy was bothered not by the enemy but by his oldest brother, Eliab. As you might experience this kind of situation in the past, many times the person who opposes, hinders or disturbs would be not only Satan but also a coworker or a team member or even family who we never imagined before or could not expect at all. So, we need to remember that the barriers or obstacles would come from the people near me. Therefore, we need to be clear enough to discern the Will of God when we make any decision by faith.

Lord, pour out Your wisdom upon me enough to discern what You want me to think and do for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
