8 This entire commandment that I command you today you must diligently observe, so that you may live and increase, and go in and occupy the land that the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. 2 Remember the long way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commandments. 3 He humbled you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna, with which neither you nor your ancestors were acquainted, in order to make you understand that one does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.[a] 4 The clothes on your back did not wear out and your feet did not swell these forty years. 5 Know then in your heart that as a parent disciplines a child so the Lord your God disciplines you. 6 Therefore keep the commandments of the Lord your God, by walking in his ways and by fearing him.      Deuteronomy 8:1-6

This reading today touches on a subject that is common with many people – when things are going well ( job is good, family is healthy, food in the cupboards ,etc.), we have a tendency to kind of forget that it is because of the abundant grace and blessing hand of The Holy One, our God that this is so. Many of us scramble into deep prayer when things are tough, like crying out “God save me!!”…………….this reading reminds us that He is with us at ALL times, lean and prosperous, and it reminds us to always have Him in our minds and hearts.

Let’s pray together – Loving and Giving God – it is because of You that we have the bounty of this fruitful earth, that we have the pure beauty of this land we call home. It is through Your abounding love and grace to us that we are here. Help us to be ever-mindful of these facts, that we would never pass You aside and forget all the goodness You have brought to us – especially that You saved us from eternal death, through the shed blood of Your Beloved Jesus, in whose name we pray.  Amen

Yours in Christ  ,  Rollie
