Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ.  I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.  You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?                     1 Corinthians 3:1-3

In Paul’s letter, he tells them that he can see that they are still acting “worldly” – i.e. there is still upset and fighting happening between them. They have yet to attain the attitudes of being spirit-filled. This takes time, prayer, asking God for insight. Things that are as important for us today as it was then for the people Paul was speaking to. Spiritual growth and understanding is how Christians mature in their faith.

Let us pray – Eternal God, thank you for the continued blessings that you bring to us each day. You are indeed The Great Provider in our lives. Please help your children to grow, Lord – to grow in knowledge of You, to grow in understanding Your desires for us , help us to be more and more like You. We pray all this in Your Son’s blessed and wonderful name.  Amen.

Yours in Christ  ,  Rollie

1 Corinthians 3:1-3

Are you not acting like mere humans?

Paul, teaching his followers about Jesus, expected them to stop acting like humans. I’m not sure I could ever act the way Paul was demanding, but that is what we should strive for. Being more than human would mean keeping Jesus’ word in our minds during every encounter with our neighbors and family.

Lord, I’m a long way from the goal of being better than human. I ask for Your help to get closer to that goal and for Your forgiveness for my failings. Amen.

1 Corinthians 3: 1-3

1 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly---mere infants in Christ.

This verse tells me I have a ways to go to learn more about Jesus. I know this is true and I work on it daily to learn more about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Working toward the goal of growing in Christ is constantly on my mind. It is a work in progress and I will continue to learn forever. I will work on living by the Spirit.

Dearest Jesus, I want to do all I can to get to the adult stage of being a Christian and to live by the Spirit. I will work very hard to do better. I want to grow into that adult you so want to see. Amen.
