15 Let the person who has ears, hear.
6 “To what will I compare this generation? It is like a child sitting in the marketplaces calling out to others, 17 ‘We played the flute for you and you didn’t dance. We sang a funeral song and you didn’t mourn.’ 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 Yet the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved to be right by her works.” Matthew 11:15-19
In speaking of “this generation”, the writer is quite possibly referring to the ruling classes in Israel at the time, the scribes and Pharisees. It was not uncommon for them to make great public displays of their zeal for God, so that they would be noticed and ( they hoped) admired by others. On the other hand, we have Jesus, the spotless Lamb , who many during His time felt He was no better than the tax collectors and sinners of the day, because He would spend time with them instead of the holy men of the towns.
Let us pray please – Loving God , we want to hear you , feel Your touch in our lives. Help us LORD, that we do not become blind to the problems and ills in our world today, that we never lose our sense of caring and compassion for those who need it in this sometimes scary world of ours. Guide us so that we can be the voices of reason and calm and love. We pray all this Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Yours in Christ , Rollie
