Psalm 92 :4-15

I love those Psalms that begin with praise and singing. The writer of Psalm 92 does just that. “You make me glad” and “I sing for joy” – I believe that the Psalms that begin this way are gentle reminders from God to start each day praising God and singing that praise aloud.

The writer then reminds us not to worry about the evildoers, our enemies, and adversaries , for God will scatter and defeat them.

The best part of the Psalm, however, I find in verses 12-15. As we continue to grow (age) our faith should get stronger and our ability to share that faith should not diminish but continue to “bear fruit” into old age. I think of our own Fred Penney who, in his 90s, is always willing to share his faith, offer a prayer, recite a Bible verse, or the words to a hymn. He is who we all should be looking toward. I pray that I follow his example.

Prayer:
Gracious God may I begin each day praising You with song and sharing all You have taught me with those around me. Amen.

Psalm 92: 4-15

15 proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

1 Samuel 2: 2 NIV “There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no rock like our God.”

God is my Rock. He is my go to guy when I am hurting, happy or sad. He is the one I talk to about my life going forward. He is the reason I exist. And as I age, I find myself growing closer to him. He is the reason I am here and he will be the reason I don’t. God’s promises for eternal life are real and worth fighting for.

Dearest God, you are my Rock. You gave me life and will take it away. But in the meantime, help me to be the person you want me to be, help me to be the person you had plans for when I was born. I thank you every day for all you have given me and all you do for me. You are the strength I need to meet life’s challenges. Thank you. Amen.

20200911 Thur, Daily Devotion - Psalm 92:4-15

[Psalms 92:4-6, NLT]
You thrill me, LORD, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. O LORD, what great works you do! And how deep are your thoughts. Only a simpleton would not know, and only a fool would not understand this:

Psalmist focuses on what God has done and surprised and praised the great works He had done in his or her life. I think too many things these days rather than what God is doing and has done so far in my life. I give thanks and am grateful and praise Him when I focus on what He has done in my life and my family life. Focusing on what God has done for me and praising HIm is the fruit of life focusing on God.

Father, thank you for what You have done so far. I pray and expect what You are going to do soon. I put my plan, future, and dream in Your hand. Lord, take my heart, passion, and dream and change them into Yours in me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
