June 3, 2021A daily prayer from the New England ConferenceThe clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
As spring summers and blossoms with new life,
my heart, O God, blooms with hope.
I thank you that the long season of COVID is ending
with restrictions lifting and life returning to normal.
While "normal" may never be what it was
prior to the pandemic,
I thank you that
smiles are returning,
hugs are resuming,
and elbow bumps are now an amusing reminder
of how our COVID greetings used to be.
While some are rejoicing,
may I remember, O Divine One,
that not everyone is where I may be
as we emerge from this pandemic.
May my heart break with those who continue to grieve the loss of loved ones.
May my compassion grow for those who continue to search for a job.
May my understanding deepen for those who choose to remain masked.
After 15 months of fear, we continue to wait,
but we wait with greater hope in you, our faithful One.
We wait with anticipation for healing.
We wait with expectation for provision.
We wait with confidence that one day soon
all will feel safe.
Until then, we continue to walk with You
in the garden
in the cool of the day,
Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jay, Executive Director, Rolling Ridge Retreat and Conference Center
