Days to Pentecost 04 - Receive the Holy Spirit on April 16, 2020
by Hannah Lee
When Jesus sent his disciples, he said this “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.” (Matthew 10:16)
If sheep go to live within the wolves, of course, they die.
Nevertheless, Jesus sends his disciples.
Even when the Father sent His Son, the Father knew that his son would be torn to death by sinners, but He sent him to the world.
But the Son did not die and fulfilled God’s work.
He Is an unusual Father.
The Father, who knew how evil these wolves were, actually went with His son in the name of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit reminded Jesus of his Father’s will and words and gave him wisdom not to fall when attacked.
Holy Spirit gave him the power to overcome sin by remembering the Word when Jesus was tempted by Satan after fasting.
He gave him the ability to heal and save the sick, and the power of resurrection to show that the gospel of the kingdom is true.
The Father sent His Son, but He was with him.
Today, Jesus is also sending his disciples.
Of course, He is sending them to the midst of the world.
How much did he love his disciples?
He said that it seemed like he was sending his disciples among the wolves, but he didn’t teach them self-defense techniques to save themselves.
Jesus didn’t give them money to avoid debt and didn’t provide them with a house to stay.
He just said, "Receive the Holy Spirit."
The most necessary thing for those sent to the world is the Holy Spirit.
He who is in charge of spreading the gospel of the kingdom of God in a fierce and terrifying world like them cannot do it himself.
The gospel that is preached with the Holy Spirit has the power to forgive sins.
"If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” (John 20:23)
I can feel how powerful the power of the gospel was when the disciples preached.
The power of the Holy Spirit with them has transcended all the needs of the world.
For the Holy Spirit gives the joy of God's kingdom, not the world.
The Holy Spirit! It is given to the people who ask, knock, and seek. That is the only thing I need.
I feel the breath of the Lord who breathes beside me every day.
