A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis
During these difficult days, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar and members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
While they were eating, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body." Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it.
Good Morning God,
Today it begins,
marking our memory of long-ago acts.
Travels between city and village.
Long talks over meals with friends.
The blessing and breaking of bread and friendship.
The blessing and sharing of a cup.
Sharp words exchanged
Prayer in the garden.
How does it always come to this?
How will we remember the story’s last act?
The choice of an innocent victim
willing to rend the curtain
and expose our false sacrifice narrative.
Violence does not redeem or heal.
Love redeems and recreates.
Do not let us forget.
May your cup of blessing sustain our walk
through this week’s difficult remembering
And through our days of difficult living
With arms open to resurrection.
