A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis

During these difficult days, Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, is sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today’s prayer

Giver of life, we lift our voices in songs of praise to you. We can search for all of eternity and find that there is truly none like you. God, you alone are worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. We praise you, Lord, because you are keeper and sustainer. We praise you because you are our redeemer and deliverer. We praise you because you are omnipotent and omniscient. We praise you, Lord because you are the healer and keeper of our souls. Lord, you are the one who has built up Jerusalem and has gathered the outcast of Israel. Lord, we ask you to build up our country and gather us in a spirit of unity, oneness, and wholeness. Lord, bring healing to our nation, communities, and individual homes. Apply the balm of Gilead that makes the wounded whole. Bind up our wounds, our hurts, our fears, and our disappointments. Lord, lift the downtrodden, raise bowed down heads, and encourage the broken-hearted. During these troubling times, Lord, help us to find our way back to you. Help us to walk in humility and love. Kind God, we ask you to delight in our faith, especially in every area of our lives where our faith needs strengthening. Amidst our anxiety concerning our tomorrow, remind us, life-giving God, that you are the author and finisher of our faith and are perfecting everything that concerns us. Thank you, Lord, for your extravagant love, compassion, and care towards us. If we had ten thousand tongues, it would still not be enough to give you thanks and praise. So this day, with intentionality, we lift our voices, hearts, and hands to you in adoration. God of grace and God of glory, grant us wisdom, give us courage for the living of these days, for the living of these days.
In the name above all names, in Jesus name, we do pray, Amen.
