A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis

During these difficult days, members of the Seacoast District of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer Based on Matthew 15:21-28

Gracious and loving God, forgive us when we have put limits on your mercy, love and grace.  Forgive us when we have failed to extend compassion to others because we felt our focus should be reserved for people of our own race, class, denomination, sexual orientation, nation, religion, political party, gender - or whatever other boundaries we might set.  If Jesus himself struggled with this dynamic, as shown in the story of the Canaanite woman, then surely we will have to struggle with this temptation as well.  Yet, Jesus allowed himself to be moved by this woman.  Her story, experience, faith and persistence - even after repeated insults - helped Jesus better understand her plea and his own call.  May we also allow ourselves to be moved by the stories and experiences of others, especially those who seem different from us.  Help us to remain open to receive all you seek to share with us; especially those gifts that enable us to come to a fuller understanding of the depth of your mercy, love and grace and a better understanding of who you have called us to be.  Free us up Lord, to joyfully find you in unexpected places and people.  In your holy name we pray.
